I have to completely agree with idiot2, the game itself is on a pretty amazing scale (I also completely agree about it reminding him of Dune, thats exactly what I thought the first time I played the game!). So many various planets, units, factions, etc. that you can play over and over again. Only problem being that you may very well want to play over and over again because as the game progresses turns can take FOREVER and the amount of units the computer builds just becomes a pain to combat.

There is no real strategy from the AI, just build massive amounts of cheap units in every city/facility they own and slowly spread. No massive scale attacks from every side, just relentless suicide attacks over and over again. Makes the end game tend to get a little stagnant.

Other than those quirks for the AI the game is very fun and was amazing for its time. I wish games like this were made today!

While this is undoubtedly one of the best early Hack and Slash games, it really is meant to be played on a multi-player level. While it still is fun solo, it is no where near the level of enjoyment obtained with a couple friends at an arcade or on the Genesis. If you are looking to enjoy this game to its fullest, purchase a Sega Genesis and this game at you local used game store, e-bay, etc.

Another great mix of genres. The strategy side fits perfectly with the D&D style rpg. With a diverse mix of characters and monsters, along with the leveling up of your populous along the way, this game is very replayable and enjoyable!

An extremely enjoyable early strategy games. For any that is a fan of strategy or even just of D&D type games, this is a must play. I love the fact that even your most basic troops gain experience as they fight and can turn into vicious fighters. The amount of different units you can control and fight is awesome, especially for its time. Heroes are a great part of the game as well, all very different.
Since I downloaded the game I haven't been able to stop playing!

Perhaps it is just because I never played the game when it first came out, but I didn't enjoy this game as much as others. While I found the diversity of characters, missions, and weapons very involved I also found the game controls to be cumbersome and quite annoying at times.
Don't want to turn anyone away from it as this game seems to be a favorite of many, but just wanted to warn that it may not blow you away.

Syndicate is one of the first games I had a true addiction to. For its time the graphics were awesome and its interaction unique (at least in my experience).
As the summary above states the game has many levels to delve into and as the game progresses you have access to better and better weapons. A wonderful game that still is incredibly playable today! I highly recommend both this and its follow-up Syndicate Wars to anyone interested.
