I played this when it got out and while it was an enjoyable experience it was tainted by a few flaws.
The game is a bit slow paced and the save system is frustrating but other than that it truly is a great game.
The dark feeling, the love for the night, the metamorphosis(sp?), good gameplay and nice story all turned this into a nice game that i recommend if you ever want to discover the first of the Legacy of Kain series, if you enjoy vampires or old-school action games.

This game is really fun but some of its aspects got repetitive.
Fights aren't really that intense and the graphics are a bit plain(mostly 3D models).
Using Quake II's engine wasn't the best idea, especially when other games by the same developper were using unreal engine (Deus Ex) for a better result.
Still, the result obtained using the QuakeI II engine is great, the environments are really vast and well designed.

The story/storytelling and the universe of the game is really good though and it's really a fun game that i recommend to those who don't really care about the graphical aspect in a game.

I never played Blood but did enjoy Blood 2.
It was a fun game and while the AI was really dumb and the level design wasn't particularly good, it still proved to be fun with a fast gameplay and a lot of action.
It wasn't the most beautiful game of its time but was still pretty to look at.
Overall a cool game which might have been better if some improvements had been done to the AI and the story.

Oh man...i remember first hearing about this game in 1997...
It was suposedly coming out the next year, then got delayed, and delayed and delayed again.
It was supposed to be the new hit which other games would then copy and it finally was a really poor game with poor design and poor gameplay ideas.
The game is nowhere near Quake II even though it came out 4 years later, that should say a lot.
By the time it got out, Quake II wasn't the standard anymore and this game was just ridiculous.
Don't waste your time here folks, nothing to see.

This game was my first RPG...
I was only 10 years old then, and this has been one of the most influencial games in my life.
It got me interested in the genre and i remember programming a similar kind of game for my calc(ti 83+) while not listening to my math teachers ^^

When it came out it was the best attempt at recreating a real role playing session (little did i know that at the time though, i didn't even know what role playing was). Why ? Because it was really immersive, the graphics were good and there was some kind of atmosphere that you wouldn't find in other games.
Some events occured that surprised you when you didn't expect them at all.
It might have been because i was young, or because i ignored much of what i know now but this is one of the games i'll always remember.

If you like Magic: The Gathering, there is no way you don't know this game.
Even though it's now quite old and only has the first cards the game is still enjoyable for any CCG(collectible card game) fan.
You can make any deck you'd like, and play at different difficulty levels, there is also a "story" mode where you begin with a few cards and need to get the rest to make the best possible deck and try to beat your opponents.
I still play it casually, a game once in a while...maybe that's because i liked the old card designs more but i think that's also because i like the game.
Be warned though, the game is quite ugly and can be a mess when you have too much cards on the desk.

I remember buying this game after reading a strategy guide in a mag.
One of the best thing i've ever bought!
Until Stardock's release of Galactic Civilizations II, this was the best space turn-based strategy game, with real depth and some of the best ideas to date.
It still remains one of the top contenders and while i really enjoy GalCivII, it lacks some of the stuff that made Master of Orion II the real deal:
Leaders that you can assign to your colonies and fleets, incredible turn-based combat system (in which depending on what equipment your ships carry the strategy changes a lot) and a better diplomacy.
Add that to planet colonization, spaceship customization, planet development, researchable tech-tree with unique choices, a lot of alien races and the possibility to create your own race, several win conditions and objectives (destroy every other civilization, be elected as supreme ruler of the galaxy, etc.) and you get MoOII.
MoOII was definitely ahead of its time and despite what most would consider today as "poor graphics" it still is one of the best games of the genre.
If you haven't played this game and enjoy sci-fi, space colonization and/or turn-based strategy game you should be getting it right now!

This game stole me a lot of my life, but i won't ever regret it!
It provided much fun and i'm sure it would still today (even though i prefer playing Startopia which you can also find on this website).
The concept was better than theme park and you had to react faster, do more things in this game. You also had to make tough choices because of space management, you sometimes couldn't have every option in your hospital and had to chose the best ones.
Of course, as said in the original review it's nowhere near the level of gameplay of a real simulation, but that's what's cool about this game. Anyone can have fun playing it!

I played "Theme" games a lot, and also really enjoyed Dungeon Keeper games.
When i got this game several years after it came out, i didn't think i'd like it that much. It was given free with a video game magazine i bought and just thought "looks like a cool little game".
I then discovered that it was an awesome game.
Mixing gameplay from both series together, this game manages to be fun, competitive (you have opponents, unlike in theme games where they're just statistics you have to beat) and you'll never be bored while playing.
Monsters have a little "cute" effect and that could eventually repel Dungeon Keeper fans but if you liked any or both those series (Themes and DK) i highly recommend playing Startopia.
The game while a bit old still looks good with highest settings (and adding AA).
