Summary
A very unique text mode shooting game. Pretty addictive!
I remember this one, I found the shareware on one of these "super gaming addon and stuff" CDs. This one is a text mode game (so don't expect a colorful design). Very simple menu, simple controls, simple plot.
You have got a hover craft. Some terrain on a quite large map (mountains, woods), and if you wait a while some rockets come flying by. Behind thick walls are the launchers, your objective is to destroy them.
Sounds easy, and from a text game one wouldn't expect too much, as did I. But what I got is a very addictive game. Not only the control of your craft is a little uncommon (but after getting used to it a very cool thing: 4 keys for the movement, 4 for the direction of fire; usually your boat was firing automatically...), the game runs absolutely fluent, forcing you to keep up every second. Very good maps (they need some exploring, which is fun though it does not exactly sound like fun :-), challenging and well balanced.
I used to program DOS games and utilities in the mid 90s, and this one really looks like the programmer had a very good eye for all the details. A very well crafted game, addictive, but a very disturbing sound (PC Speaker), mainly the (rapid) firing causes the speaker not to be silent for one second, but this can be turned off (in case your wife does not like monotoneous beeping). I began missing that crappy sound soon, so I turned it back on. God I loved that game.
