Summary

If sword wielding, dungeon hacking, and weak enemies are your forte in an RPG, then Delphine Software's Darkstone just may be the game for you.You are on a quest to reassemble the orb and collect the seven scattered jewels that will bring normalcy back to the surrounding towns.

Darkstone is one of the better Diablo clones that has been released. While the gameplay isn't as deep as Diablo or the enemies as tough, Darkstone does offer a nice introduction to dungeon hack RPG's via easy combat and a light focus on distributing stats.

While the game looks good, it has quite a few weak points. The story is somewhat average and clich? fare. The maximum amount of characters permitted in a player's party at any given time is two. The graphics are lackluster and blocky and the game only offers support for 640 x 480 resolution. The interface is poorly designed and the camera angles during battle are poorly executed.

While Darkstone is far from being terrible, it falls short of being a great gaming experience. This game is not in the same calibur as Delphine's earlier titles such as Flashback: The Quest For Identity or Out Of This World, but all in all it's worth a look.

Just a nice Hack'n'Slay

This game was a nice Diablo-Clone. The handling needs getting used to. The camera perspectives are horrible. Sometimes you rotate the camera 360 degrees, 720 degrees, 1080 degrees and you rotate and rotate and rotate and after rotating for hours (of the feeling of it) you recognize that the chest/questitem/whatever is just in front of you.
The problem of the game is that there is no "Diablo-Feeling". You play it for one or two times and then you have seen it. There's no need of leveling or searching for unique items. It's just playing trough and finish.

Little Problems

Very nice Game, GREAT Atmo, but little Problems

So u could choice (afaik) to play with one or 2 Chars. But sometimes (when u played with just one char) it could happen, that u step into Quests which NEED to be done with 2 Chars.
That sucked ...

I enjoyed this game and have played it through a couple times. Kinda a diablo clone. Various quests and dungeons keeps you entertained. I believe alot of Rpg's have borrowed some of the ideas from this game.

Darkstone PS1 version

Rating:

6.0

My brother and I played this for years, trying to out-do each others characters. It is very reminiscent of Diablo 1, but the graphics are somewhat lower quality on the playstation version. The PC version of Diablo 1 has worse graphics than this though. It is still a lot of fun, with many weapon and spell choices, as well as male and female characters of each class and multiple difficulty levels give it some replay value.
