Uploading and adding new games/walkthroughs/manuals
A few folks have been asking how to upload some of the missing game files, or add new game listings to HOTUD.
If you want to upload a manual or walkthrough for an existing game entry:
1. Login to the HOTUD index page.
2. In the 'Resources' nav box, click on the "Upload Missing Files" link. When the page reloads, click the 'Choose File' button.
3. In the "File Title" text box, type in the name of the game and 'walkthrough' or 'manual'. (ie. Castle of the Winds Walkthrough or Dragon's Lair Walkthrough.)
4. Click 'Submit File' and wait for a moderator to approve your upload.
5. Let us know in the the forums so we can thank you!
If you want to upload game files for an existing game entry:

If you want to create an entry for a game that does not exist on the site at all:
1. Login to the HOTUD index page.
2. In the 'Resources' nav box, click on the 'Submit New Game' link. When the page reloads, click the 'Select Section' list and choose 'The Games'. Then choose an appropriate category/genre for the game by clicking on the 'Select Category' dropdown list.
3. Fill in as much information as possible in the game information text boxes... the more complete it is, the better.
4. If you have box shots/screenshots or other images that you can attach, click the 'Choose File' button in the Images section.
5. When you are satisfied with what you have entered, hit 'Submit'. You can always modify this information later.
6. If you have the game's files, walkthroughs, or manual, please see the above section on uploading files.
7. Let us know in the forums so we can thank you!
Let me know if you have any suggestions for these instructions and I'll modify them accordingly.

Hi everyone! I have a big amount of old games and manuals for them (some of which I have already uploaded).
I'd like to ask if there is any first-priority files which need to be uploaded (hope I can help uploading them). Maybe site needs a list of "most wanted" files.

I was wondering if it's our responsibility to check whether or not the games we upload are still for sale? I just don't want to dedicate a bunch of bandwidth to files that won't be posted or get lawyers on someone's ass.
Also, I'd be up for helping out sort uploaded files/virus scan them/test them/whatever you need done in order to cut down on the time it takes to get uploaded files onto the site.
DragonChild, most wanted list would definitely be awesome! I have over 8000 games to sort through and hopefully upload, and knowing who wants what would help out a bit.

Well, it's good to be home again. Hello HOTU, good to see you're alive.
I've taken the liberty to reupload starfire, star hammer, xap, and the star crusader mission disk for HOTU.

P.S: I've proposed other games I've hunted down and talked about in the old HOTu forums on the french site of LTF: There you'll be able to evaluate rare games like fire wind or the elusive way point zeta space sim.

I'll handle comparing them to games for sale. Shouldn't be too heavy.
I've got to do a bunch of work on the admin side for file management so there's going to be a delay in confirming new files. Once I get that done it should be MUCH faster..

Okay Uploads are back up. they're integrated into the specific game now, so you can just go to a game with missing files and click "upload missing files" in the downloads section (scroll down the page)
I almost have a list of all of the missing files ready to go as well.

Another question about uploads is: What games are forbidden to upload because of ESA protection or because there are still being sold? Is there kind of website where I can find out more about this?

I can deal with the checking, but I can't promise that stuff won't get removed later. There isn't a place to search for this stuff unfortunately.

Umm... What am I missing? I would have liked to upload the manual for Alien Legacy, but I don't have an "upload missing file" link in my "resources" box...

Aye, uploading is disabled at the moment. I would suggest uploading it at replacementdocs.com , but it looks like they already have a copy.

I don't know how legal it is for me to upload things here so I better post the link here.
I found a copy of Galapagos: Mendels Escape CD-Rip at www.old-games.ru
I got a copy of "The Reap" here too, but as I said: I don't know about the legality.

What’s the deal with Large game files, most of the games I have seen on this site are reasonably small say 10MB
I have a copy of Starfleet command III for example which is around 150MB when compressed, I can upload it if you like since you already have a game listing for it, if its too large then let me know.

Last Call is about 230 MB. (Last Chance to See is even larger, but alas, that didn't make the last import.) There may be problems with uploading files of that size at this time, however.

1. Yes, I want to try to upload anything, but list of missing files still missing itself. 
2. He-he, Undegroun Gamer have most comprehensive collection of AD screensavers, and I have it already half-year.

hmm, I just registered to upload the missing crack for MadTV2 but now I find out I can't...
What now?
Edit: I attached it here. It has a small bug (was also on HotU) you have to edit the .BAT file to patch "game.exe" and not madtv2.

I've read 3 different instructions for how to upload games: 2 in this thread and one on the main page. None of them are working and I don't see any message warning me of such. I'd like to give back a game or 2, but this is frustrating. Whats up?

There's a pretty nasty bug in the php uploader so I disabled the whole system. We're updating the files manually now. Time consuming, but the data doesn't get lost in the process.
If you want to add some files, drop me a line at admin at hotud.org
We can get those integrated manually.

I'm reimporting the repository right now. As part of the process I'm adding a tag for file availability. I'll redump missing files once the whole thing is done.

I have over 20 games from the site's missing games list that I have had downloaded from the old HOTU and I would like to post them. I can't see a way to upload games, and an email I sent to admin@hotud.org two weeks ago remained unanswered. What is going on?

Well, perhaps you should list the games you have here? They may have been partly taken care of already.
(I've been awfully busy with Other Things lately; I can't speak for Mr. Pall.)
